DEATH WOKE US UP

So death came in today
To tame the soul of the land
For the ones who refused to die
We are the food you eat
Bound in freedom with no room or roof
Proof that we are nothing
But chicken kept for election supper

We live in fear of who is next
Dying at home or in the streets
For the ones who refuse to leave
We are fed lies and discord
Malnourished and weary
Yet we gather, stagger to our feet
Demanding our necks free from your knees

We raise our voices
As children born of anger
Of those who once were hopeful
For change that never came
We rise up as warriors,
One whose heart, though broken
Is fused by the blood of the ones we lost

Today we embraced death not defeat
We leave the streets not the fight
Standing firm on our keypads in unity
This is not a drill
This is the beginning of our freedom
Tell the ones who refused to sleep
That death woke us up
